photos & videos from april 21st & 22nd

a couple weeks ago a bunch of nfld punks invaded the city & there was a string of shows going on all around town. somehow I managed to make it out at least partially to four shows in three days. here are some photos & videos that I've collected from that weekend.

if you were at the shake it show you likely noticed the fellow up front with the fancy camera, trying to dodge the hardcore dudes. check out some really sick footage from epiphany productions by clicking on these links.

the next night the touring nfld folks played a house show up the street from shake it with vixens & concrete asylum, probably my two favourite local bands at the moment.

this was a really busy weekend & I found myself flailing about, trying to catch the bands I wanted to see & feeling a little burnt out at times.
a highlight was castle wolfenstein's set at the last almon show on the friday evening. fucking cody cross always manages to accidentally punch me in the mouth every time they play. it's great though. he nearly crowd surfed out of the room while people were spilling beer & tripping all over the place. castle wolfenstein are for sure best suited to a crowded living room show.
milk moustache also tore shit up that evening but in a completely different way. I'm really excited to see what this band will sound like in a few months because they were all over the place genre-wise on this night. I'm not complaining though. it was super refreshing to go to a show & see a band that I was not expecting or hadn't ever seen before. I get so tired of seeing the same locals & the same dudes playing in all of the same goddamn bands together. mix it up a bit more! everyone seems to be stoked on the supposed diversity of the punk scene but we're still only booking our friends bands?
don't get me wrong, I LOVE a lot of the local bands in halifax with a fierce devoutness but lately I feel like more often than not I'm just going through the motions.
maybe that's just me though. thoughts?
another highlight was the crowd surfing cheese pizza that got passed around before the murder house show. whoever's idea that was... THANK YOU! it was so eerily silent as I looked around at a packed tiny basement & all the punks had their mouths full chewing on the greasiest, cheapest, cheesiest pizza halifax has to offer... the one & only kit kat.
lastly I got such a kick out of watching josie from vixens lose her shit & flick sweat all over the kids in the front row at the murder house show. one boy looked particularly uncomfortable & part of me couldn't help but giggle as josie bumped around, obviously invading what little personal space he had.

email us @ diyhalifax@gmail.com if you want to contribute to this blog. we really need more writers especially & for folks to actually submit content or else this little page will fall into neglect like it has been recently.
